Application Policy

The main interface lists the visible applications your students have open and allows you to close any of them. That's the active part, but the Denied Application feature lets teachers build a list of automatically denied applications. When in force, teachers can automate blocking stuents from running distracting applications like instant messengers, games, or other unwanted applications. And just like the browser policy, the application policy can be applied to one or all students. Additionally, instead of using the application name (which can be renamed), SurfDirector uses the windows class name of the application, making it harder to defeat.

There are two ways to add items to the list of denied applications:

  1. When you see a student running an application you want to deny, click the icon next to the listed application. The first icon just closes the application.

  2. If you have the application you want to deny on your computer, run it, open the Denied Application Manager dialog, and add it to the denied list.

Once on the denied list, you can enforce the denied list by clicking the student's icon or selecting the menu item for the single student or all students.
